Findings

This is an ultrasound of the abdomen. The view is transverse. Turn on the annotations by clicking on the "Annotations" button on the right. The structure labeled "1" is the right kidney.

  1. Can you identify the structure highlighted by the arrow?

    Inferior vena cava

Correct! The IVC runs medial to the right kidney.
    Superior vena cava

Incorrect. If you are able to visualize the kidney at this level, it is too low to see the superior vena cava. Try again!
    Aorta

Incorrect. The aorta lies on the left side of the body. This is likely another vascular structure. Try again!
    Gallbladder

    Incorrect. Try again!
