Radiology Elective Basic Facts

TEACHING CONFERENCES: Stoll Conference Room, Central Radiology

¨     7:30 – 9:00 a.m. - Attendance if indicated by Dr. Magid. BE PUNCTUAL PLEASE!!

¨     Special Lectures- intermittent; Grand Rounds, etc.

 EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT EMed Radiology Area, Zayed EMed G1305 (5-8:30 PM) 

¨   One such shift per student, on a Monday-Thursday.  Introduce yourself to the ED Radiology resident at 5:00 p.m.(If you elect to join earlier, observe technologists until 5)  White coats!

¨     Work load very variable.  Slow times, residents should have some basic teaching cases available, or read Normal Variants or whatever you brought.

¨     No more than 1 student each evening.  2nd night optional.

TUTORIALS:  Our goal is to improve your eventual patient management, enhance your ability to communicate with Radiologists and to request high-value Radiology Consultation.  Tutorials are designated to enhance your understanding of the imaging procedures, of the information we need to proceed safely and effectively, and of the patients’ potential discomforts and experiences; rather than to produce embryonic residents.


            40% Final written exam (Answers reviewed immediately after test)

            30% Oral Presentation: 8 minute PowerPoint, pre-approved topic, 3rd week of course

            30% Classroom: ‘Hot Seat’, participation, Conference and class attendance, etc 

FIVE CASES: each student will submit an email listing 5 interesting teaching cases by last week in course.  These can be from previous rotations, or Tutorials. Include pt. name, MR, brief outline of clinical scenario, and dates and brief descriptions of relevant imaging studies and findings.
